Hi all--
First post, so hello.
I just got rid of my dbx 286A which got replaced by a used Joemeek VC1Qcs and a new RNC. I wanted more control over the compression for guitars, and vocal tracking.
About the only reason I can see to keep the Joemeek now that I have the RNC is for the EQ and enhancer. It just doesn't strike me as either a) imparting a lot of opto-character "voodoo", or b) allowing a lot of control as the compressor in the Meek is both slow and only goes up to 8:1, or something. This would be fine, I guess, if all of the Fletcher crowing were about EQ and not Joemeek's unique compression.
Ok, so I'm trusting my ears, and that's what they're saying. Are they crazy?
BTW-I'm a guy in a basement doing what I love--music. I track female vocals (on a Blue Baby Bottle), and my guitars and bass with these units, which I then add to my otherwise fairly trip-hoppy/electronic music on the Mac.
Thanks-
.nick

Now I have both of these units and I do like them a lot. BUT

BUT I don't use the RNC for vocals.
The Joe Meek has been on half the vocals I have done in the past year and one of my opto comps has been on the other half.
Next year it could be different but I still don't think I will use the RNC for vocals. It seems to have a perminant place on a stereo sub group.
You get that. ;)
Sebatron and Kev- Thanks for the input guys. I might look

I might look into that mod idea. This would go along with my desire for "more", especially when it comes to recording my guitar and bass.
I also think that RNC in Super Nice would be great for taming the vocals due to its relative transparency. Since it's so new, I've only tested it on my own lousy voice, and my singer's not yet tried it.
I'm going to mess around with the meek to see if I can get it do more of what I want.
Thanks again--there's nothing I like more than learning new, useful things from other peoples' experience.
