Hi there,
I have a Scarlett Focusrite Solo and it works great for plugging in my electric guitar. I just bought a Samson C01 Studio Condenser Mic with an XLR cable. When I plugin the cable and press the 48V button for phantom power, nothing happens. I turn the gain button and unlike the jack/guitar input it doesn't turn green. Also, the Samson C01 should have a blue light burning but it is just not connecting. I am really at loss here about what is going wrong. Can anybody help me out?

When you say "XLR cable", is it XLR on both ends, or just on the microphone end and a jack plug on the other? If the latter, that's your problem. Phantom power (+48V) on an interface is available only on an XLR connector. You need an XLR socket to XLR plug cable.
If you already have that type of cable, either the cable or the microphone may be faulty. Do you know anyone else locally who has an audio interface you could visit to test your microphone and cable?

Hi Boswell, thank you for your answer.
Yes it is XLR on both ends and both cable and mic fresh out of the box oddly. I don’t really know anybody with an interface. Is there another way to test it, or would you suggest trying another XLR cable?

I have bought a new XLR to XLR cable, but still the same problem. Any other suggestions on why it won't work? Something to do with the phantom power?

No blue light = no phantom, so if you've ruled out the cable you are left with interface or the mic. Substitution of one or the other is the only was to be certain, unless you are ok with a multimeter.

Does the light in / or next to the button light up on your interface for 48V? If not the interface is defect, otherwhise I suspect the mic.......
