I recently came across a Schoeps CMT34 microphone. I was wondering what I can find out about it... History, construction, etc... About all I know is this particular mic was about 25-30 years old and is powered by 12 volt phantom (not T-power).
Anything else? How does it fit into the schoeps line as far as sound, lineage, etc.
Thanks!

Hello, Benjamin--by now I believe you already know that the CMT 34 was a 12-Volt phantom powered cardioid-only single-diaphragm transformerless output FET-based condenser microphone. It's from the series that immediately precedes the present CMC or "Colette" series of microphones. The CMT 34 had a clear, basically quite neutral sound. The MK 4 capsules of today maintain their flat response up to somewhat higher frequencies, but the basic sound is about the same.
By the way, another reply said that Posthorn Recordings is the U.S. importer--that changed as of the beginning of this year, however. Redding Audio is now the U.S. importer for Schoeps.

My searches found several references to CMT30 and CMT35 but nothing for CMT34. My guess is that it's a derivitave of one of these (maybe having an LF rolloff or different HF curve.)
I'd suggest you contact Posthorn (the US Importers) to see if they can help.
