OK, I just tried both Air and Bright settings with my new Yamaha AEX 500 Nylon, plugged direct-in with 15db pad engaged and the gain at 8. All I can say is the guitar responded beautifully. The bottom was well-defined--not flabby, and the highs were sweet and present--not harsh. Further experimentation is needed, but so far I'm liking this combo--especially with Air.

Less valve sound on acoustic guitars appeals to most people.

I will certainly try it without the pad next time.

This is a thin hollow body electric acoustic, not a traditional acoustic like my Webber OM. At least on this day, more valve sounded better to me.

pad not engaged means full valve.
-15 less valve
-30 least valve

This is how I've understood it, and that's how it sounds to me.

-15 and -30 get the most use at my place, especially with singing.
If I don't use the pads the vocals tend to sound like the main-course in an aussie bbq. sizzling hot.
For percussive stuff the full valve treatment tends to be cool.
