In the area I live a lot of bands are going for that Slipknot/Soulfly raw dirty sound. Does anyone have any details on gear/mics/pre's used?
I honestly love the sounds that come from Indigo Ranch and Ross Robinson, but am not sure how to achieve the rawness. My stuff sounds a little too polished.

That's all I could find. Appearently Indigo Ranch doesn't have a web site.
I can say from the picture, they use all high end gear ... no cheap stuff... looks like a remote for an OTARI 2" machine there, some tube tech stuff ... and somthing on its side ... not an LA2a or a Fairchild ... ???

The dirt's in the source not the signal flow -
Having worked with Soulfly, and Corey(8) I've watched it go down - there isn't anything special in the signal chain - it's the same stuff that's used on other records - signal is maximized for tape and there it is --
The sound is what's coming out the Amps - pedals - guitars - throats ---
Now, you should know that these guys tune their guitars down to B or A - that may be the growl you're looking for.
