i run nuendo with a MOTU 2408 and 1224, today i just recieved another 2408 and after hooking it up i've been getting some crackle action on playback. i tried fiddling with buffer speeds but it was no help. do i need an external word clock to rectify this situation or is that not it at all?
any help would be great
thanks
mike

One thing to look for is the software eprom versions between all of the MOTU boxes. Make sure they are all the same.
You may want to contact MOTU(good luck that is!) and ask them about that. There are some known issues in regards to older firmware versions when running with boxes that have newer firmware versions!
The way that the MOTU boxes work is that one is the master clock and the others receive the clock through the audio wire from the PCI card.
So I don't think it's necessarily a clocking issue.
Typically most people tend to think it may be clocking but it could be either the firmware versions between the MOTU boxes or a possible system performance issue.
How many tracks at once are you recording and what type of drive are you recording to?
Give us more information if MOTU says your firmware versions are ok
