I have an "in your face" finger picked acoustic guitar track that I need to soften. Any tips or advise as to how to do this? The guitar cant be retracked. I need to try and make it work.

I have Waves Diamond and UAD card with all mixing plugs activated.

I have fooled with comp and eq..
Thanks for helping a newbie.

For an acoustic that really in your face and jumpy, I usually just use a basic compressor, with the attack set as short as you can get it - like .5ms or so.
I use about a 4:1 ratio with the level set low enough to tame it. I use my ears at that point with my eyes closed.

The other thing with acoustic too, is to make sure that you HPF all the low end crap out that doesn't really add anything more than extraneous thud and clutter. I tend to pull stuff out below 400Hz rolled-off to taste.
