Here is another test I did today to compare Sound Devices Mixpre-6 vs Tascam HS-P82.
It's not a strictly scientific test, but I think one can get the taste of how both recorders compare in sonic quality.
One of them is called Recorder_01, the other is Recorder_02, for obvious reasons.
The setup is as follows: I'm using on one channel a Neumann UMS69 with both capsulas facing forward 0° and in omni switch position; they are by definition matched.
The other channel is a matched stereo pair of AKG C414XLS in omni switch position, stacked on top of each other sidwise coming as close as possible. Both upper mics go to one recorder, the lower to the other (a potential weakness of the test, but the best I could do without a good active splitter).
There are three files in 96/24 interleaved for speech, a seven string flamenco guitar and a 6 string flamenco guitar (the latter being mellower in tone and having a bigger bass) of both recorders. They are mono normalized to the same level, so that there are no preferences because of the volume. No further processing whatsoever.
Here's the link to the dropbox folder:

What do you think?
And don't beat me up because of the peak normalizing; it's still the best way to make the volume comparable IMHO :)
