First post - I just joined.

Here's the question - I have a pretty fancy project studio based around a Roland VS 2480 stand-alone hard-disk recorder. Nice mics - nice pres - nice outboard fx., etc. Get this - a friend just GAVE me an old Ramsa WR-T820 20 channel console - WITH the meter bridge! I'd love it if some folks here gave me some ideas as to how to get the most out of this board. So far I've thought of tracking through it, although I'm not sure how good the mic preamps in it are. He also gave me a Fostex A20 2-track 1/4" tape deck. Maybe I'll bring the individual tracks back out of the 2480, mix on the console, down to stereo on the tape deck? Then back into the Roland for mastering? I have an Apogee Rosetta for A/D so I'm not TOO worried about going out and in (AD/DA) once or twice. Or should I be?

It's gonna take me a while to get a patchbayset up for the new console, too. When the console is finally installed where I want it getting at the connectors will be a problem - plus it uses a BUNCH of RCA jacks (yuck!).

So what's the best way for me to use this console? Anyone familiar with the Ramsa WR-T820? How are the mic preamps?

I *will* hook this thing up and give it a listen - I know it'll be up to my ears to decide if I like the sound of the console, it matters how my room sounds, etc., how good my mics are (Neumann, Beyer, Sennheiser, AKG, etc., Oh yeah... and Shure) I will listen and decide - I am just wondering if anyone has had success in similar circumstances, i.e., using a fairly fancy console as a front end for a stand-alone hard-disk recorder.
