So I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem. To answer your preliminary questions; the headphones are fine and no it doesn't happen in playback. At first I thought it might have been a bad jack, but how could it be the jack if it doesn't distort during playback? Also, it doesn't matter how low my levels are when recording, it still distorts. I've been reading the boards and can't get an answer. So either my problem is more rare, or everyone else figured out how to solve it a lot quicker.

I sure hope its just a cheap firewire cable that's causing this.
I sure hope its just a cheap firewire cable that's causing this. I'll try that option out tomorrow. If worst comes to worst I'll end up buying a headphone amp and send it through the monitor mix.

Is the signal from the monitors being summed with the recorded signal and put through the headphones and clipping?

Monitor outs work fine, and headphone clips regardless of monitor situation or lack there of. I know, weird. I'm going to try to set it up so that I'm using the monitor out for everything, see if that works. But I'm going to need to get a descent splitter or headphone amp. I'm starting to think I should've gotten an Onyx w/ a firewire card.
