I would like to see more "nuts and bolts" talk in the mastering forum. I always read something like "well first , I bring up the midrage 3db, compress the hell out of the top end, and then add a few hundread edits to the solos". Thanks, but , how in the heck do you do it , darn it! There is never any discussion on what equipment is used to do this, how the equipment is used, what format is being used, what the heck an edit is, etc. Not much for a greenhorn like me to grab on to, as compared to the micing, tracking...forum which has more specific data concearning hardware and how it's used.

Cedar, I have some ideas:
a) a compilation of tops 20 songs provided by posters;
b) some book containing nice transcriptions of the best posts on here;
c) some "giveaway"
d) some mastering project on the web, both for junior and top pro guys;

Ya see, some ideas would benefit not only the users but also the site organizers. I am aware it is not easy to keep this thing so nicely on!!LOL
Also, with contests, more manufactures would come here once more people are getting interested on this cool place. I myself invited some people, even engineers that do live in the Us

Well, what I would like to know more of, is how specific recordings where done. I would like to be able to listen to something, and then find out what was done to get that sound. Maybe a place to post questions about specific recordings? Then people can comment on how that might have been accomplished, or perhaps someone has knowledge of how a recording was done.

Another idea (and I would be first in line for this) would be to create a CD comparing differant recording/mixing/mastering/miking techniques. I can see all kinds of possibiliteis for this. Examples of differant 'standard' mic's for specific uses. Examples of differant EQ, compression etc.

I am also very much looking forward to the RO Reviews!!! :tu:

Let me point you to something. In MIX magazine they run a monthly feature call Classic recordings or something like that. I have found it to be very interesting.
The CD is a great idea but sounds like it would be a lot of work. Perhaps someone could take this idea and fly with it. It would probably sell a bunch. I am afraid the subtleties of such a thing would be lost in MP3. It would have to be distributed in wave files to be truly enlightening. Kurt
