Hi!

Seeing so many people selling there used M-Audio Firewire 410 on e-bay gives me bad vibes on the product...

Does anybody have an explanation on that?

Would it be a unit that is not doing the job that the musicians are expecting from it?

Maybe I'm a bit parano here... You must know that It's because I'm about to buy one myself (or maybe a FW Solo like I said yesterday in an other topic).

I wish someone gives me a feedback on this (as a live singer, it's the fist time a ask for a FEEDBACK!).

Some people have had major difficulties with the 410 because of the drivers. Lots of people can't get it to work well, although I'm sure these problems have been sorted out by now.

As well as that, it's the sort of unit that's very easily outgrown, so people are upgrading, especially as much better stuff is entering the market at a much lower price-point than it did even a year ago. On the other hand, I'm sure the 410 is much cheaper than it was then.

Be careful about the FW Solo. People have had problems with that one as well.

If I was you, I'd seriously look at the MOTU Traveler, and if you can't afford the extra cash, or if you don't think it's worth it, the 410 is perfectly adequate for what it does. You might like to try the Edirol interfaces as well such as the FA-101.

Another thing, a lot of people buy budget gear without realising the particular challenges of recording and blame the equipment, and then they upgrade and realise that they still have the same problems. That will account for a lot of the 410s on the market. You can learn so much with a machine like that, and then when you decide to upgrade, you'll be seriously impressed.

I upgraded from an Edirol to an Apogee, but only after squeezing everything possible out of the Edirol. Now I love my Apogee, but I have to admit that some of my Edirol recordings are very good.

If you get the 410, you might surprise yourself by what you can do with it.

Good luck with whatever you choose!
