Hello everyone,

Windows 10 will be released tomorrow and we expect that many of you intend to upgrade - especially because the upgrade will free from Windows 7 and Windows 8.

With the new operating system, Microsoft introduced many changes in regards to audio optimisations and lower latencies.
Also a new MIDI API is part of Windows 10.

We recommend that you do not upgrade to Windows 10 until final testing results are available as it might turn out that some Steinberg products need to be updated to ensure full compatibility.

As soon as we have more details on the progress, we will publish a https://www.steinbe…"]knowledge base[/]="https://www.steinbe…"]knowledge base[/] article about the subject.

Best regards,
GN

Hello,

Yes, specially if you are working with video, although it seems that some users have managed to install Quicktime in compatibility mode.
Or at least you should wait until we have found a work around or till the next maintenance update has been released.
Some adventurous users have updated and besides having to update the eLicenser Control Center have reported that everything is working fine, but in some of our test we have found what you have seen on the KB article, that is why we cannot officially recommend to update.

Best regards,
GN

Is there anyway to know if previous versions of Cubase (like 6.5.5 in my case) will be compatible with this WinX upgrade or will that just be a good luck and try it and see?

Unfortunately there isn't, and we do not offer backwards compatibility. In your case you will just gonna have to try and see...

Thanks Guillermo for that quick reply!....I suspected as much, the compatibility report from Steinberg only listed the currently supported versions (which makes sense) and there were issues with compatibility with those versions at this time. Cubase 6.5.5 and my RME FF800 work perfectly fine on Win7 64bit and I really don't see any important reason to upgrade to WinX at this time. If I do decide to do that in the future at least I will be aware of potential issues..
Back it up!
Thanks again
