Hi, I'm thinking of getting some monitors for my home recording studio/office, but I want to get an idea of how difficult it would be to do some treatment to my room. My budget for treatment is just a few hundred dollars. I know that's not a lot, but I'm sure I can get creative and stretch my money. Here's a diagram of the room. It's a vault ceiling that goes from about 8 feet high to 12 feet, with the 8 feet starting at the windows end of the room and inclining towards the door end. It's in a 16 sided house if you're wondering why it's such a crazy shape of a room. I've read that it might actually be better than a square or rectangular room, though.

Oh, and I would prefer to leave at least one window uncovered while I'm mixing/mastering, but I don't necessarily have to.

Thanks in advance for any tips.

The odd shape of the room has good points and awkward points. Good because parallel walls are few so less build up of obvious standing waves. You need to infill the corners with some rock wool/fibreglass (broadband bass traps) and dampen off the reflections from side walls. 10cms thick Rocksilk RW3 will start you on a good footing for side walls or equiv Owens Corning if you are USA based. Always read about the materials and wear safety clothing/goggles/gloves etc when handling these materials. Then consider a ceiling cloud, this will work wonders for you steereo image accuracy.

Do it bit by bit and enjoy it, it is good fun.

cheers
