I was just fooling around with some audio files and came across something weird. On Deftones White Pony, pretty much every song stays peaking at 0.0; but for some reason, Change(In the House of Flies) peaks at about -1.5 for the entire song except a couple stray hits at the end. This was their single on the radio too. Not really a BFD, volumewise compared to the other songs; but strange nonetheless. Any idea why they would do this, unless it was a mistake?

Well, possible......but you should check it out for yourself if you can find a copy.

I took another look and it is actually just the last hit. I don't think a person could tell the difference either way. I know I couldn't when I limited it like the rest of it. But dang that is one squashed song. When you bump up the peaks to hit 0, the loud parts are averaging around -7 to -8.

Haha, I tried turning up the limiter more and more on a whim, and it doesn't really get any louder after you hit +1.5db, which is where gain reduction starts. Apparently it can be squashed no further (at least on the loud parts)!
