I've seen a few kits on the net that you can get for around a thousand dollars that are supposed to be API and Millennia copies. The circuit design looks very simple especially on the MM-990. its an epoxy molded gain circuit that needs a power supply and phantom power + a rack box. Anyway, I'm sure there are a lot of differnt kits and I was just wondering if anyone had taken the time to sit around and build one. If so, I was hoping to get some opinions and results about the whole ordeal.

Ahhh! Great topic. But you should go to the DIY forum. They have many discussions on this topic. Look or search for a topic called "best sounding poreamp I ever heard".

I am in the processes of building a "Slowie" pre at the moment. It's a nice push pull tube design. Point to point wiring.

The kits you can buy aren't worth shit. Don't bother. Instead either come up with your own or go to the DIY forum and ask around for a design. There are many people who will reply with good designs and help you through it. Look for a "G9" design or "SlowBlow" design, they are both great.

As mkruger suggested , take a look in the tech talk forum, and the associated "group diy" page..... project 2, which is still in the works, is a api type thing, so there should be tons of people building them. Since there are some talented nice folk over there, you get instructions and advice so you can assemble your own 'kit' for much less....good luck.
