Will a condenser mic still pick up plosives if theres not pop filter but instead a windscreen?

Does it have to be of a good quality material to be effective at all? Do cheap pop filters work?

Yes, you need a pop filter to get rid of wind currents generated from normal speech and singing.

Sometimes a windscreen will work, but to be sure you must use a pop filter. Its really frustrating to get a great take with a couple loud thumps from pops in the mix.
