The reason you hear my name a lot is that I'm a "bottom-feeder" studio (or at least I was up to a few months ago). I don't have a lot of nice mic preamps so I depend on a large variety of microphones for different colors.

On rec.audio.pro, I did some evaluations of the Russian Oktava and Elation mics, the Marshall MXL mics, the T.H.E. mics, and the Studio Project mics, and now I have a reputation as some sort of guru of microphones.

Since I just run a studio and have no magazine affiliations, a lot of people accepted my findings as more unbiased than some of the magazine reviews, since I mentioned the models I didn't like in each line - and why I didn't like them.

I do know enough (to be dangerous) about what goes on inside a mic, but I'm no mic expert.
