I have a 256 SAMSUNG PC2700 in my machine.
I saw that BBuy has 256 Crucial PC2100 for $25.

Running P4 1.6a at 2.1 (or so I recall...)

Any solutions? I just need more RAM and this seemed to jump into my lap.

Thanks.

Well, first off you're running a DDR 333 in a 266 machine so in essence you're not even really utilizing that memory in the way it's supposed to run.

You can mismatch ram speeds but do NOT mismatch memory brand names! That is a no no!

Basically the lowest speed memory will be what determines your BIOS settings or the CPU synchronous activity. The 1.6 Northwood is a 400Mhz processor and can only truly take advantage of 200Mhz of the memory in essence. The 266 is fine and dandy for that for the extra headroom.

My advice is to stick with what you got and stay with that brand and speed.

Always try and match what you have
