I have upgraded my pc, it is up and running, but I can't get windows98 to recognize my new CDrom drive. I decided to upgrade and wanted to keep my old 6gig HD until I could afford some more upgrades. When I booted up it said there was a conflict with the drives and a different controller would be used. So, in Device Manager I have a primary and secondary ide controller that have a(!) by them and a standard dual pci ide controller under them.
Can I fix this? Should I just get a new Hard Drive and be done with it? Is this why the CDRom drives won't work?

It sounds like you upgraded your motherboard without a reinstall? If that's the case, the old IDE controller drivers may be conflicting with the new ones. Clean it up (delete them) and let windows auto install drivers as need be, then download the latest drivers for your chipset, whatever it might be...
If that's not the situation...eh, I'm not sure, then. ^^

Thanks for the info! Sorry I didn't respond, I've been down and working on the issue. Apparently I had a couple of issues:
1. My old hard drive could not be the master to the new one. I switched them around and they worked fine. I went out and bought another one anyway, so I have two new ones.
MUCH FASTER! :c:
2. Windows98 needs a patch to run a cpu over 2 ghz. I was getting an error on the ndis driver. For anyone who might need to know....
I am reinstalling everything now and may need some tips on how to get it running lean...

You want even better performance...lose WIndows98.....get Win XP
You want even better performance...lose WIndows98.....get Win XP Pro...you'll see a night and day difference...besides 98SE doesn't use more than 512MB of RAM anyways and won't perform well with newer processors....I bet the patch won't help you much anyways...

I am using Sonar 2.0 and cannot get my Yamaha S08 to enter or play midi via the USB. :( Do you have any info on this? I installed the USB Midi driver that Yamaha gives.
Also, since the P4PE has a built in soundcard, now do I connect midi cables?

Ranus, Windows98 never did USB right. Even though I believe USB was introduced with it. I also must suggest switching your O/S to either Windows 2000 or XP. Windows9x/ME is a terrible operating system all around, not just for recording purposes.

Try putting the CDROM on the secondary controller on an ATA100 c
Try putting the CDROM on the secondary controller on an ATA100 cable...use the old drive on an ATA66 cable(in other words...the 40 conductor wire IDE cable..)
It may be an issue where the hard drive is killing the CDROM due to it's old age and speed status
