Looks like (now berringer owned) Klark Technic has produced an 1176 clone. Priced $600 its in line with other mass produced clone gear.
IMHO it's insulting to both KT and 1176 that this thing is out. Having not heard it or used it I can't comment on its quality or authenticity. To me it's just a way to grab some kids cash.
I have an idea that might be crazy. I've been considering building an 1176 clone, in part for the experience. I was leaning towards a Rev D, as consensus seems to be that it sounds the best. On the other hand, I would be building a compressor for its character. Shouldn't I be building a Rev A, since it has the most?
I thought this mix I did might serve as an interesting analog mastering comparison using a few compressors with tubes and trannies.
Hi all,
I'm interested in building one of these 1176 clones from Hairball Audio. Has anyone else done it and can they comment on the sound compared to the original?
For those of you using or curious about how to use an 1176 (hardware or plugin ), Fad Dupont http://puremix.net/… has a new video on it. As usual, this new tutorial is excellent.
edit: updated video that doesn't cost money to see.
In 2001 Universal Audio started it's line of plugins/DSP cards with a model of its own UA 1176. Their model of the 1176 was very good, but as you'd expect they've learned a lot over the last 10 years and a number of their recent plugins are more complex. A lot of people have been lobbying for them to go back and redo their old plugins and it looks like they've been listening.
Finally, a true stereo 1176! With over 2000 units already sold to date since the year 2000 re-birth of Universal Audio's 1176LN, it is clear the public's love affair with the legendary sound of the 1176 is still as passionate as ever.
Hi there
Wondering if I could get some opinions from you good folks. I've decided to get myself a FET compressor for general tracking duties. I decided I would go with either:
- 1176LN
- Purple Audio MC77
- Mohog Audio MoFET76
- Slate Pro Audio Dragon
whats a good pick for a mic for hip hop and rnb? u87 or tlm103. should i get the Neve 1073 or 1176 universal audio?
