Front panel controls include 5 mixers, master, bass, treble, VU range, illumination and power.
The entire unit, including its AC operated power supply is constructed on a standard rack chassis, occupying only 5.25 inches of mounting space.
It's design is such that the hinged front panel may be opened without interrupting program.
Sufficient space has been allowed to install miniature step type attenuators in place of the moulded composition controls which are standard equipment.
The control panel has raised abrasion resistant characters with bleached write-in blocks for channel identification. Background areas are etched and coloured in a non glare, easy eye green.

I got an Altec 1567A mixer and hooked up a line level signal (like a CD player) to input 1 octal socket pin 7 hot and 8 ground. Pins 5 & 7 are linked. The output is connected to output octal socket pin 7 hot, pin 8 ground. It has a bad hum/low frequency buzz, I think its the way its hooked up. I don't think its the unit itself and I tried lifting grounds on everything except the mixer.
I just purchased an Altec 1567a Tube mixer on ebay. I use an apple powerbook w/ mbox. I'm one of "those guys" who don't know sh*t about the schematics of vintage gear (yet), but am in love with their sound. I've been recording on everything TUBE and 2" machines at a few studios ... just never ran the stuff. I've used these as preamps before, and they definietly kick some ass...
