Recording with electronic drums in a business

I am starting a mobile recording studio business in my area. I am getting a custom trailer built that is 8'x24'x7.5'. My original plan was to build a 8'x14' live room and record real drums, but after doing some reading it seems like it might be difficult to get a good drum sound in such a small room.

Clock

In digital audio or video, a clock serves as a timing source. Data has to be executed at very specific times for digital audio or video to function properly. An issue that has to be addressed when synchronizing systems with each other. Although audio and video require different references to keep data passing through a system correctly, they both do it with the aid of a clock.

Also referred to as house or video sync. Derived from video editing where video decks and cameras needed to proceed from one frame to other with absolute synchronization, the term is now finding use amongst audio professionals as they find the need for their digital workstations to lock to picture when working on film or video projects.

Originally used by the military for rocket launches, SMPTE time code is a standardized way of referencing the 24-hour period. Based around the video frame, the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers identify frames and sub frames with a unique identifier that includes hours, minutes, seconds, frames and sub frames.

Word Clock madness?

Hi,

I'm finding that as I migrate my studio more and more to the digital end of things, I'm picking up more and more equipment with word clock BNC connectors. The problem is, some have an IN but not an OUT, so how do I chain all of them together if I want to use one clock source (as I understand I'm supposed to)?

Will a Composite Video D/A work for Wordclock?

Hello all,

I am looking at getting an Apogee Rosetta (or simular), and I am also wanting this to serve as my "Master Word Clock" via the 75 Ohm BNC connections.

I will need to distribute this signal to 3 or more devices, so I will need a Distribution Amplifier. Will a good Broadcast quality 75 Ohm composite video D/A work?

Striping SMPTE to DAW?

Quick question. (damn, I'm full of alliteration today)

My Ghost desk reads SMPTE and can automate mutes for a mix. A have used this feature before when tracking to tape in order to both sync the computer and do the mutes. I suddenly thought: why couldn't I strip code to a track in the computer when not hotting tape, and fire the mute automation with that?
