I've yet to purchase a high-endlarge condenser for vocals for my studio.

I already have a SM7, so I've got that area covered, now.. what do I get for the a "go to" for vocal, room mic for drums, and other things.

What are some classic ribbon mics you guys are fond of/have heard good things about..

why?



I am interested in learning more about ribbon mics to record upright piano with.

I know, you're supposed to record opera singers in acoustically perfect concert halls, but I'm on a budget and all I have is my 8 x 10 home studio which doubles as both a control room and a live room. My goal is to record live vocals over pre-recorded orchestra karaoke tracks to famous soprano arias.

Hey, I finally decided to do some mods to my Apex 460, and after looking through the hundreds of forums with the Apex 460 mods, I still have some questions. I'm pretty new to mic modding, so some questions might be on the stupider side, but please help if you can.

Since I'm at it tonight... here is another new product I just found. Has anyone had hands on with this pre, or should I say pre(s) plugins... ? Now it's getting interesting.

In doing some research for a mic splitter I'm building it became obvious that I should have one isolated out and one pass through instead of just building essentially 16 y-cables in a box. There are a number of reasons and what I want to know is if there is a way to do it without buying 16 trannies. Transformers are the right way to go but the Jensens are cost prohibitive and so are Lundahl.

i won't go into my whole situation but i have around a $400 budget for buying mics for recording. I used to have an SM57 but i don't know where it went :(

now I have 0 mics.
