I've been watching with (originally) sum scepticism on the mic mods but I just watched and listened to the MXL Marco swapped the capsule in, and have started to think a bit. The 47 diaphragm the Chinese are making pops up quite often, and in every case - it seems to get positive comment.

well, I was finally forced into replacing my old trusty 57 this weekend. It died last year (the ballad that which has been mentioned here many times so I won't get into that again, lol) but instead of buying a new one, I started using an old AT dynamic that is haf knocking around for years that I used instead. But, I couldn't get used to it tho.

I mostly record vocal with one of my LA-610 mainly because of the dynamic nature and potential unusable recordings without having a compressor in the way in.

I notice the vocal sss have a district smoothness with the tranny in. I've not been a fan of Cinemag transformers until hearing this.
So, many of you know that I use an ADK AP1 mic preamp, that allows me to "pop and swap" different XFO's and OpAmps to sculpt tone...
Please share any comparisons you've done between the UA LA-2A and Warm Audio WA-2A seen below.
Looking at the guts of the WA-2A, it looks pretty clean, not exactly the same as the originals but it appears to all be there.
I wonder how it sounds? Compares?
Looks like (now berringer owned) Klark Technic has produced an 1176 clone. Priced $600 its in line with other mass produced clone gear.
IMHO it's insulting to both KT and 1176 that this thing is out. Having not heard it or used it I can't comment on its quality or authenticity. To me it's just a way to grab some kids cash.
Oh man oh man, this could be good. Fingers crossed. @$1199 it's excellent per channel cost, got input And output xformers, and also an an output knob per channel, which could be useful when not only for good gain staging, but especially if these trannys overdrive pleasantly. Plus the op amps are easily swappable. If I'm dreaming I don't wanna wake up!
