AKG 451 vs. Beyer 160 OR Schoeps vs. Coles 4038 for classical piano?
I prefer the 160s to the 451, but I don't like either that much for solo piano. I can post examples of my test recordings.

Studio Ribbon Microphone
Classic BBC microphone that has been in continuous production for over 50 years.
Hello all,
I am currently recording a friend's project, an automated music machine, and have a question about one of the mics available.
It is a (appears to be fairly old) Coles STC4030 ribbon mic and I have had fun using it so far in Mid/Side configuration.
i want to use this microphone for (acoustic and electric) guitar, drum ambience, and vocals. do you think it will be okay on a marshall cab? that is not distorting and what not.
would you rather have the coles 4038, or the Royer R-121 /22?
I am ready to add a ribbon mic to my home studio arsenal and would appreciate hearing from anyone who has had an opportunity to a/b the Coles 4038 vs a Royer R-122.
I am interested to record acoustic instrumental music (my main instrument is dobro and Weissenborn guitar) with this microphone.
Hi folks, new guy here: jumped over from the Digidesign User Conference.
Questions regarding these mics, which I have a few ancient examples of.
