It's been a while since we've done an overview as to the state of the Mastering world.

Have you been busy this summer? Any feelings about the upcoming fall?

Is it well prepared? Better or worse than last year?

Removing Reverb from Concert Recording

I need some advice on how to get rid of the reverberation from a recording of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons that I made in a large stone church last month. The concert producers had a narrator read the sonnets associated with the concerti while a violinist standing behind the narrator played snippets of the solo part.

Recording Piano in Chamber Music

The thread on recording solo piano got me thinking about the challenges of spot Micing piano on chamber music concerts. I record a lot of chamber music with piano. Generally, there are two to seven string players or wind musicians situated in front of the piano. And they all like to snuggle up to the piano and play right in front of it.

Last weekend we did a recording of a children's choir. I do this about 5 times a year. I know what to expect BUT this time they threw us a big curve. Normally this choir is done a cappella with some songs being accompanied by piano. I got a copy of the program at the beginning of the week (something that we ask for all the time) and did not note any real problems with the music.

Organ mic techniques

I know this is a huge area, and that no two instruments are the same, so this is one of those how-long-is-a-piece-of-string topics, but I'm curious to know what people's favourite mic techniques for organ are. I know the AKG 426 sounds amazing, but I've heard that some people have achieved great results with a pair of TLM-103s.
