Grace 101 and Earthworks QTC40 Problem

Don't know if this is the right section for this, but I'm having a noise problem recording with the QTC40 and Grace preamp. Thought maybe I could skip testing some parts of the recording chain if I describe the problem in enough detail. Using 5 mics with this project, when the Grace input began to make some noise, then the signal disappeared altogether. Simple enough, eh?

A matched pair of QTC50's.



I have been drooling over those mic's for 2 years now. I am curious to hear what other people have to say about them. I can't seem to find many reviews out there. I have the demo disc, and like what I hear. But I am just wondering how they perform for other people?

Earthworks and Double Micing

Two quick questions:



1. I've read a lot about double Micing guitar cabs...specifically, I've heard a lot about close Micing with a Shure 57 and Micing about six feet away with another mic.



My question is: do you use a Shure and another mic, and if so, what other mic do you use? Are there better alternatives to the 57?
