half normalled

How would i typically do this?

My preamp is an old mesa boogie studio pre.

It has mono send and stereo return.



I tried connecting the send out to the top row (1) and the stereo returns on the bottom row ( 1 and 2 )

I have three related questions for you.

I was uncertain whether ask for your help or not and eventually decided for this second option, I hope you'll help me focus on relevant facts.

when i record into Pro Tools it seems like I'm not making the best of my input gain. i have my first 8 channels going into my 002 via the ADAT light pipe and then i have another 4 channels going into the 4 line level inputs, not the pre's. I'm not using those..

Hey all. I have a quick question. I have 1 large rack, with a couple of pres, a compressor, eq, couple of verbs...etc.

Can someone explain "normalled"

1. What is fully normalled? what are the pros and cons and how is this used?
2. What is half normalled? what are the pros and cons and how is this used?
3. How is each used respectively and why are pieces normalled and not?

This is a topic that has bothered me for a long time, and now I need to solve it as I have decided to finally get a patchbayrather than dig around in the back of my rack every time I need to make some changes! :)
