So, my studio is 16' X 23' X 14' (Cathedral Ceilings). It's made out of stucco'ed cynderblock with voids filled with sand. It sounded wonderfully horrible before I treated it.

I am very new to the mixing world, my first project is my band, Identity Krisis', album and I need some advice on
mixing and mastering. I have finished 5 tracks so far and here they are.

Hey everyone this is a band from my area that I tracked a couple months ago, getting down the nitty gritty with it right now. When I listen to the guitar tone I cant help but think its too gainy. Or possibly its that solid state sound coming from their amps, but regardless I could really use some fresh ears on the mix.

This is a rough mix, and right now I am working on the guitar sound as well as just writing music. I previously recorded about five songs just using a direct method, and that sounded pretty good except I had to do A LOT of EQ work on the back end.

Hello everyone. I'm a sound engineer from Athens, Greece and with my band we started recording our first Album.My band is called Shadow. It's a blend of all the styles from Hard Rock and Metal music and we try to combine it with our own flavor. Is there anyone here how is dealing with that kind of music ?

Hello Guys. I would like to ask somethink about recording Hard Rock / Heavy Metal songs.

While in recording process, who much do i have to leave for the mastering and mixing ? I'm working with Hard Rock and Heavy Metal mostly and need to learn more on that.

Hi guys... I was wondering... What is it that gives a song that heavy punchy sound. I've heard songs that are supposed to be a heavy song but doesn't have the punchy boom it needed. I am having that problem. I think it's the master that gives it that sound but Im not sure how to get it. Any tips?

Both are very good mics that anyone should be able to achieve good sound with. The SM57 is a classic and many classic and modern guitar tracks have been recorded with them. The Heil PR20 is a different sound and sounds more balanced to my ear. Fuller on the low end, easier on the brightness, but one drawback is that it seems a little busy in the mids. Little EQ to fix this, not a big deal.
