instruments

Hi Recording.org community! I wanted to reach out to your collective wisdom! Is it possible/recommended to record classical instruments (I am a professional flutist) with both ribbons and condensers? I have seen this in a couple of places eg. on the Royer website they have a recording of a flutist with a SF-24 and 2 RODE NT-6 omnis flanking on a stereo bar.

OK, so I am building a setup in my home studio, which would allow me to record mainly percussive acoustic instruments like shakers, glockenspiel, and various types of ethnic or homemade instruments, in a live situation. Since I already use two condensers for vocals in the same setup and also play electric guitars "in the box", I want this mic to minimally pick up on all of these.

Here a song with many elements in it, so I'm looking for help on how it's sounding on your system or HP. Please listen to the whole song, as there is an orchestration section at the end. Extra points if you can tell me who is speaking at the very end.

At the 48 second mark there are 4 chords descending in pitch right before the main guitar comes in - I'm trying to figure out (reasonably close) how they accomplished that sound with the bass. Is it all keys? Any Ideas/Stabs at this?

I thought I'd start this poll, the motivation behind it being that we might discuss those problematic instruments, and share our own personal tips and tricks with them.

Feel free to add any scenarios that I've overlooked...

I was thinking about getting a Talk Box, but how would I use software MIDI instruments through the device ? I use Logic, if I had the outputs going to the Talk Box then wouldn't all the other tracks be projected through the device as well ? Is there a way to split it into different channels ?

I'm using Logic Pro 9 and M-Box Mini 2
 

hey guys what are your thoughts on having the person mix the music different to the person mixing the vocals.

i have listened to my music so much that it has lost all meaning although i know exactly how i want my vocals to sound.

can you guys see an disadvantages with this?

i would basically be mixing vocals on a stereo mix.

Quick question, when you are using Kontakt instruments in say Cubase, Logic etc when you convert/export the MIDI tracks to audio are you using the A/D D/A converters of the SoundCard to do this?

I have found while using my Soundcraft Notepad 124FX that when one of two instruments stops playing, then the other instrument records louder than when both instruments are playing together. Any ideas would be appreciated.
