I'm trying to record an XLR mic and laptop audio simultaneously on a Marantz PMD 661. I am connecting the laptop's headphone jack with the LINE IN2 of the Marantz with a mini-to-mini cable. I have only been able to record the XLR mic but no laptop.

If you have any of the Marantz PMD digital audio recorders, whether you bought it last week or years ago, check the Firmware. I bought mine just a few months ago and was shocked this afternoon to find that the Firmware pre-dates the Internet. Well, almost!

Mine, a PMD620, came with Firmware A1.14. A2.33 came out May 4th, 2009. A2.03 was current in March 2008.

This unit has a SPDIF input. Wonder how this would do as the final destination for mastered material. If you were coming out of a Masterlink at 24 bit into HEDD - Vari Mu - Massivo -- Hedd and then into the CDR300? Would the 16 bit copy that it produces be as good as any?
