I noticed that many mixers such as the Behringer hard wire their line inputs (without even a switch) in parallel with the mic input to the mic preamps. Yes, they do have a drop resistor but that's all. My concern is that the signal is being dropped and then amplified back up - thus adding another stage and more noise.
[Solved :)] Hi, I am fairly new to the world of XLR mics. I recently got a RODE NTK microphone and a Focusrite Scarlett Solo 3rd gen pre-amp. I use a Macbook Pro along with Ableton Live Lite and Adobe Audition. I have tried everything I can, but the preamp is not picking up the mic.
Lucid R3-- transparent mic preamp with optional jfet based harmonic drive. As well it has a tuneable high pass(5hz to 1khz), tuneable low pass(20k to 500hz), polarity,phantom power and de-pop circuit.

I was thinking of the Neumann tlm 102 and maybe a UA 610 for preamp.
Which is best-or is it situationally dependent?

I have a small semi-portable studio rack system which I use to record my own music as well as band sessions. My gear includes an ART Dual MP preamp box which gives me two decent mic/instr preamps that works well for certain mics and instruments, but I frequently need a few more preamps. Right now, I fall back on my Zoom R16 channel amps, but I'd like a better option.
