So, lets say I have a little more than just a passing interest in perhaps building an opto compressor from a kit...and I want to start by familiarizing myself with basic electronics knowledge.
Not sure if this counts as pro gear, but it seemed the most appropriate forum.
I've had this unit for some time now, as my second 8 channels in my setup.
Over the last 18 months, I've had all the tubes go bad three times.
I chalked the first two times to having removed it from the rack and traveled with it, but...

I'm about to get an opto-compressor for vocal-tracking as it's primary use. I have lots of comps but not one with an optical gainreduction element. My most commonly used mic/pre combination is my vintage Neumann bottle with M7 capsule and 1073 pre.
Due to some deal's going on on the ARt pro VLA brought up some questions.
Right now I only have a RNC which I believe is a digital/vca type compressor. I do trackinto a DAw, however I mix in a hybrid fashion of using stems to outboard mixer, and bring it back in for final tweaking/limiting etc.
With the low Dollar American products are very good value at the moment. I'm looking for a nice characterful compressor to add to my collectionand this one has been recommended, (Albeit by the importer!). Anyone know anything good or bad? 8)
