I did this video - about how you could clip a mic to a flute. Handy if you need to do a live recording where for either the PA or just for separation, you need to get a mic close in and keep it the same distance from the instrument. Difficult to do with a mic one a boom, as the players never stand still. I used the Shure SM7B as sa comparison and then mounted a cheap lav mic in a small clamp.

Greetings all,

I got an Apollo Twin MKII Solo (all stock plugins) running into a Shure SM7B with a Trace Audio mod (+25dB clean boost) and my mic is inside a Kaotica 7B since I can't really treat this place well.  I can do that after we buy a house but for here, I need to occupy as little space as possible.

Counterfeit Shure SM7B Microphone

We've known that counterfeit mics are available for years - the SM57 and SM58 dodgy mics being well known, but a friend sent me an SM7B to try.

Things didn't go that well, to be honest - but not in the way you might imagine. One thing is clear, you do need to be on the ball. In the video, I've run through what I found, and you can hear the genuine SM7B against the fake.

Is my SM7b defective?

Hello!

I recently got a Shure SM7b but I suspect it's defective. I've only recorded vocals for one song with it but felt there was something off with the sibilance so I analyzed it with Voxengo Span and noticed that there is a weird dip at 6500 Hz. It looks exactly like if there was an EQ with a very narrow bell with a pretty large decrease in dB at 6500 Hz.

This is an average measurement using Voxengo Span. The audio is completely dry, the SM7b set to flat (i.e. no bass roll off or presence boost).

Recording Vocals - Microphone choices

In the videos I have been producing, we've listened to a number of microphones and how they respond to voice and instruments, but for completeness, we'd not heard them on voices. I'd been working on a little job where I'm creating a stage track for a person I've worked with for years and I always send him the stems, and a guide vocal.

Is SM7B a good choice for this artist?

Hi guys!

I have a client that I have been struggling with finding the correct mic for. He has a really sharp s sound so any of my condensers where out of the question the minute I heard his rap vocals. Here is an example of a song he recorded using an AKG c3000 and I mixed and mastered. (he is the fist rapper)

MXL V63M or Shure SM7B or for home broadcasting

Setting up home studio for on line radio and looking for a mike, can anyone tell me why the MXL V63M is so cheap ?

I found a used Shure Sm7b

Or any other XLR suggestions considering a limited budget to run though my board would be much appreciated. I have phantom power on the board but no other home equipment at the moment.
