Unwanted low-level electronic interference from my recording signal path

Hello there,

When I start my computer and activate my DAW I find that I have a constant low-level electronic noise coming through my monitor speakers. It begins the minute that I plugin my digital interface which is a Scarlett 18i6.

Could you rate my signal path?

I have one very simple question, would this signal path, if produced competently, yield vocals that to the untrained ear would effectively assimilate to vocal tracks heard in Top 40 music? Here's the signal path:

(Wall-foam'd closet) > Neumann TLM 102 > BLUE Robbie Preamp > M-Audio Profire 610 A/D Converter > Macbook Pro

Signal path and Order of rack mount gear

I am wondering about the order in which I should set up my devices. I am recording guitar direct (or bass) and wish to run it through a Lexicon MX200 effects processor, a preamp, a compressor, and then obviously the last connection will be my Firebox DI box.

In what order should I run the compressor, Lexicon (for a little reverb), and preamp?

Hi,

I am using the VMP in a live situation on my gigs. You can set it up with the compressor being pre or post EQ and the Vintage harmonics being pre or post compressor. It gets a bit confusing as to what the best signal chain would be for best results. Would it be best to have the

COMP-VC-EQ. or

VC-COMP-EQ or

VC-EQ-COMP.?

Signal path - tubes and transformers - where?

I have a lovely Pendulum to cover my tube pre needs. I don't have a tube mic, however. The cheap ones I've auditioned have a bit of gauze over the picture, but I assume good ones can sound spectacular and clear. Here's question 1. All things being equal which I know they are not, will a nice tube pre obviate a tube mic.

Hi folks,

I'm mixing a project with Motu/Mac/Digital Performer. I have a question regarding plugins in the channels. Should I EQ first and then compress, or vice versa. Any advice or opinions would be appreciated.

thanks from my mixing madness,

Chris Paulson
