tascam dr-100

I need a small stereo recorder to record mostly sound effects, i will sue external microphone (mkh 40, mkh 30)
is anyone of you experienced on Tascam dr 40 and Tascam dr 100?

Thank you for letting me post this question without a registration process. I am new to outside recording (but not studio recording) and wondered if a windshield for the Tascam DR-100 would be effective - Rycote make one as do Redhead windscreens, and maybe there are others as well.

I just purchased a Tascam DR-100. Seems like a good unit as I'm going over the manual and doing some first tests. But my manual didn't come with a troubleshooting guide to answer this potential issue: The built-in speaker doesn't seem to work. Headphones work fine, though.
