MIXER - VU Meters no longer illuminate.
Hello fellow recording enthusiasts,
Hello fellow recording enthusiasts,
No worries, I have searched the forum for answers but didn't see these questions asked.
I'll start out with some specs that might come in handy to know. Im on a i7 pc with 24gb ram running studio one version 2.6 as my daw.
What VU meters do you use for your hybrid DAW system?
Meter designed to interpret signal levels in a similar way to how human ears perceive loudness, responding more to the average level of sounds rather than to peak levels.
Hi Sebatron ,
I have a post in Pro Audio forum. Some models have optional VU meters, and others do not have like 4000e. It is an quite expensive adds-on.
What is your opinion? Can a Sebatron be possibly damaged without a VU meter? is VU meter in the signal chain? that may affect signal in any way?
Thanks.
Hi, i'm trying to understand how important a VU meter on a mic preamp is, to some of us,,
Myself , I beeing novice and all, will probably depend on it until I know what things need to use "pad " or not, etc,,,
that's why I ordered mine with VU's
I have just begun my venture into the recording world and have many questions without answers. First and foremost could someone explain the reasoning behind the VU meter that reads in negative decibels? I understand the concept of decibels as being a logarithmic scale to simplify the hearing process but why use a negative scale in recording . . . am I missing something?
Where can I get a powered box with 2 VUs and balanced +4 inputs? I don't expect any company to really make this but maybe it is easy to build. Any techs out there?
Can anyone recommend a good resource on the need to provide buffer amps (or "make-up gain") when connecting a VU meter somewhere along an audio signal path? To the ignorant among us (me), it all seems so arbitrary; in some cases a VU meter appears to be just hung off existing circuitry. In other cases, a single VU meter is fed by a huge "buffer amp module" that serves no other purpose.
