Can I use an external mic with a webcam?

I just bought a Steinberg CI 1 USB Audio Interface, a Shure SM58, and a Logitech HD Pro C920 Webcam.

Totally Desperate with this Recurring Problem.. Mixer and Webcam cause popping sound

Recording with computer + webcam?

Hello

Provided we can put the PC close to the table where people will be talking and I can run a cable between the sound mixer and the PC, are webcams good enough to record a conference/lecture? Are there webcams that can be put on a tripod?

Also, for that purpose, which application would you recommend for PCs and Macs?
