What is the best mic cable now, right now I'm using standard mic cable. Does more expensive cable sound better?

Hi all, I'm looking for a two channel tube pre. Tube preamps are new to me and I believe that this will smooth-en out the slight razor edge of my 03D and the 888/24, right?
What would your choice preamp be?

Being Prepared, what tips could be suggested in getting prepared for a first time in a studio?

How close should we practice the songs before we begin in the studio; still keeping them fresh sounding?

I use this click trick for years now, and you're right, drummers love it !
One matter should be considered though : if your click is too "groovy", laying rythm tracks along with it makes it "unmutable". I mean it becomes part of the song groove ! It happens to me once, and the click pattern ended up as a synth perc track in the final mix !

what do you guys do about mastering? what tools do you use? Is every mastering house accepting PT files?

I use the C4 and L1. It works excellent for me. I use WavesC4 only at the master track of the entire session, then bounce the session in 24 bit to two tracks, then open a new session up in 24 bit and import the two tracks.

After 18 years of playing music (12 of which I've been engineering) I'm finally getting around to registering with ascap.

Anyone ever encountered problems during the registration process? I want to avoid any unforeseen obstacles.

why do I get a disc error when draging files from my recording drive to a 2 gig jaz drive.

The only whey it will work is if I open the session up in Pro Tools and then copy save the
entire session into the Jaz drive?
wondering if FWB would help if I reformated the discs.
