K-Stereo - has anyone tried this unit?
The unit is designed after Bob Katz ideas... looks like he had Z-systems to make the unit.

Hi Henrik,
TC 6000 does certain things well that other units don't,for example multiband compression or 5.1 processing.
Sintefex is something to look at when it comes to analog simulation, but I don't think that TC is faking analog in any way.

Speaking of Weiss, Henrik did you ever demo the Weiss eq and compressor? I'm saving my pennies for another goodie from him. I haven't decided yet which one I need the most though.
On another note, I've been using AC3 on several DVD-V titles lately and I have to say that I like the sound of it. Taking into account that it's significantly smaller than PCM. If I a/b i can tell the difference but If I just pop in a DVD without knowing which is which, sounds pretty good without sitting there really trying to tell which one is which. What I can tell is the difference in bit rate on the video that I can use if I use AC3. What I haven't compared is AC3 verses DTS. I don't have a DTS converter so I can't do an A/B comparison of the two. But from what I've read, DTS sound better. But it seems that the majority of DVD titles that I have are AC3. Anyone else using these two that could shed a little light on this?

So Henrik, you started this thread, what do you think about this unit if you've tried it? Or are you just inquiring about it? I always find a little ambient enhancement or stereo modifiy to be pleasant. I personally haven't tried this unit but would like to. I respect Bob katz and think he's really got a head on his shoulders so I think if it's used with taste, it probably enhances this mix.

No, i've never used the 6000. I'm sure it's a usefull unit but the price tag is pretty high. For that kind of money, i would rather buy some other things. Maybe I shouldn't sleep on this unit and actually give it a try. I don't have any DSD gear and i'm not sure I will. It depends on where this market decides to go. I've done a few DVD-A projects, just the mastering, not the authoring. It's an expensive investment without the demand for it yet if ever. I've not had 1 client inquire about DSD. Still for the handful of DVD surround sound titles i've done, it's a big investment. I'm in a wait and see mode with DSD

Sorry for the late reply here... I'm coming back to this forum after being gone for a couple years.
Anyways, I've used the K-Stereo DD-2 processor a few times and for what it is, it is a pretty magical box. I do a lot of acoustic music recording and mastering here and the DD-2 is one of the only boxes that can take a stereo recording, open it up, increase the ambience and space you hear without really affecting the image. Add to that mid-side processing, and I've saved some pretty horrible mixes with it.
Where you may not find as much of a help with this box is if you are working with a recording that was "multi-mono." When I'm working with a recording that didn't have much stereo information in it, it doesn't have much effect... For recordings where lots of stereo information is present (ie an orchestra or chamber music recording) where the bulk of the sound is through a series of stereo ambient microphones, it shines...

That's good to know, i'm looking forward to trying one out. I'm waiting for the weiss unit cause it's going to have a couple of extra goodies that will come in handy. I was concerned about he phasiness of the box. I wonder what's going on inside of that thing.....

Looks like Bob Katz is a "digital" man, He likes his weiss and TC system 6000 the most.
I think Weiss is fine but TC system 6000 looks too much like a digital unit faking analog...
What do you think about this.
