i found this thread while searching for a way to use a digital mixing console as a pro tools controller.
the thing is,that some time ago, i found an article where a guy was using a Yamaha 01v mixer as a controller for pro tools by tweaking the midi commands the faders generating to match those of the digidesign's "command 8".
so the point is, i want to use a mixer of the same grade possibly a Panasonic/Ramsa DA7 MKII to control pro tools m powered 8
i would be glad to know, if anyone here had attempted something like that before..
thanks

I think you'll be stuck doing this through midi.......which, after reading again, you obviously realize. It shouldn't be too difficult. Just read the M-powered manual. It should have installed as a pdf with ProTools.
Go to Setup/peripherals/machine control tab. There is a check box to enable and a drop down menu. PT should detect your Ramsa. Chances are that you will have to create a custom profile for it though. Not necessarily but possibly.

For it to work directly as a PT control surface, the DA7 would have to emulate HUI protocols, as the Yamaha mixers do. Logic and Pro Tools can be controlled by Yamaha gear in this way - no MIDI tweaking necessary.

In that case, I think he's good to go. The DA7 does in fact emulate HUI.
The only thing I want to electronically control is my laughter.
The only thing I want to electronically control is my laughter. Do you want to control a console or do you want a console to control you? I like automation for things that humans cannot accomplish so you know it wasn't done by a human. It makes you look so much more talented? Doesn't it? Of course some rappers can imitate the samplers that made them famous. Now that's talent, talent, talent talent; talent with a talented Talent. All that talent with only one gig of RAM, RAM, RAM. Check. Check in mail. Mail mail mail, in the mail. Got my male mail male mail. Get down get down oh yeah hey.
Not sure what I'm doing hear?
