This might be a wide type of question, but I would really appreciate your answers. I plan on starting to learn to master mainly rock albums. I have my own recording studio, but I dont intend on mastering what I record. Im going to master other people's work.
What mastering compressor, EQ, limiter, summin bus, processors, monitors do you use or recommend?
Budgetwise were talking about spending about $3000 for each unit. Not more. Thanks a lot for your answers. You guys have been a great help in the past! 8-)

all the usual suspects, manley, GML, Avalon, Maselec, Focusrite, cranesong, etc... Everything has it's own flavor. Most are more expensive than your budget dictates. It's kind of like asking what's the best car. What kind of flavor are you looking to get that you're not getting now? What kind of gear are you using now?

The nice thing about quality equipment is that it doesn't matter the style of music. What matters is having a proper variety of choices for each particular project.
Even if you only master heavy rock. The recording, mixing mic placement, format.. will be different project to project. Those things determine what I use more so than the style of music.
Today I'm doing a world music / jazzy record. It's great 96K Pro Tools HD. I'm using my Vari Mu compressor and a tuble line amp to warm it up Along with other anolog eq.
Don't forget the most important part, the room. All of this gear
Don't forget the most important part, the room. All of this gear won't mean anything if you don't have a good room to listen in.
