Mackie 800R if you want good pres, but if you are just going to use outboard preamps....you honestly cannot beat the ADA8000.

some of us also use the Alesis Ai3 in addition to the B 80000,
it to is a relatively ADDA, found cheap on the second hand market.
Both contain WaveFront chips as do many other units both cheap and expensive.

you can always mutilate your sound with bad Mics and Mic-pres and bad techniques and methods if you like.

Cool cool i went with the adi-2, nice combo for the 9652. It has its quicrks but it gets the job done.
