My P4B266 is currently on BIOS Revision 1003. I noticed on the ASUS site that there is 1005, 1007, 1008 and 1009. Are any of your ANUS's using one of these versions? Is there any justification for upgrading to any of these versions? if so which do you recommend?
Opus, in a previous thread when asked about OC'ing this board your response was go to Advanced in the BIOS and you will see an option for clock speed
on my board i have CPU Speed with Manual, 1800, 2400 as my choices. i assume this is where i set the speed for OC'ing the board. i'm curious as to why mine says something different. could it be the bios version?
because this all makes me very nervous, seeing the system is running so well right now, what benifits will i get from OC'ing? what about the performance boost will i notice. i guess what i saying is i don't want to do this just because i can. it took me to long to get this thing right. i tried setting the cpu speed to 2400 and after the system went through the boot sequence the screen went black like it was going to start XP but it just sat there longer than I thought it should so i shut it down and set the speed back to 1800 and it came up fine. see what i mean. this makes me very nervous.
Well, mine said 1600 and 2133 because my processor was a 1.6 and
Well, mine said 1600 and 2133 because my processor was a 1.6 and I'm guessing your is a 1.8
So, at that point your core voltage will need to be raised up to adjust for the higher speeds during over clocking. I believe default voltage is 1.5 and you will want to bring it up to about 1.7 or 1.8 and then set it to 2400 in the advanced setup area in the BIOS. When you set the speed higher than it's rating it will raise the amount of voltage needed to run it so raising that core voltage will make it boot...it's not going to cause any damage as memory and CPU's are meant to take that type of heat and torture so to speak.
My BIOS is up to 1005 I believe and I should go to 1009 to be up to speed and be current with what is available. If there is a BIOS update I would always take advantage of it as it usually adds more stability or fixes issues like temperature readings or wierd boots into safe mode!
Hope that helps!
