I don't know what it is called, but I want the software to be able to separate all the tracks, so I can have an acapela vocal rtack and so on. Please help. This would only work with wav files right?
Unless the tracks are a.) non-coincidental in the mix or b.) at opposite poles of the stereo spectrum, I don't believe there's any true way to separate them completely.
However, [[url=http://[/URL]="http://audacity.sou…"]Audacity[/]="http://audacity.sou…"]Audacity[/] (freeware) has a feature that reduces mono material (i.e. vocals) to simulate a "karaoke" mix. The results are usually underwhelming and leave the track sounding thin, but it may give you what you want. I'd assume it works with numerous audio formats.
