I'm about to buy an apple powerbook 1.67, and wanted to know if I could record or playback 48 tracks with 2 gig of ram, an external hard drive 7200 or 10,000rpm of course, comfortably without the laptop crashing?
I'm using Nuendo or Protools.

with logic or DP yupp easy, pro tools i don't know (but probably yes), but nuendo hmm...
all steinberg stuff is very, very bad on macs, in terms of CPU friendlyness.

with logic gold under OS9 on a 466mhz G4 / 512mb ram (incl. velocity engine), i have managed years ago 48 tracks... with a good load of plugs...
logic is very well optimised for mac CPUs
i know some guys who use logic express on old 400mhz G4s it's still fine, if you don't run tons of CPU hog plugs...
and a 7200rpm drive is totally ok for audio (i think 10.000rpm drives are a bit overkill) i personally have very good experiences with 7200rpm seagate baracuda drives... maxtors are very good as well.

i would stay far away from steinberg if you run a mac!!!
far far far away... 8)
