There is no "unprocessed and processed" - It's a D.I. / preamp. It doesn't do anything else.

okey.. i know what it is.. what i meant was.. the same sound with a conventional mixer preamp (example behringer or mackie).. and the same sound with a Avalon M5 preamp

I own some Avalon. Just not the M5...(yet).
But the Avalon gear is sweet. You will either like it or love it. But it's safe to bet you will love it in a comparison with the Berhinger gear.
It's a safe bet all around.
And even if you were to buy one and want to sell it for something else. The Avalon gear REALLY keeps it's price as used.
Most of the time on ebay, the Avalon re-sells for almost as much as it cost to buy it new.
