Yes, and that depends on the answers to my questions. ;) Technically, I would spend the $550 on something else because I already have an interface. If you're after a recommendation, I and others would be happy to make one, but we really need to know the answers to my questions.

PCI, USB, FireWire?

well my question is more complex.... i guess.... ive heard great things about the echo layla 3g so i ordered it a couple weeks ago.... however they are backordered most likely for another week or so.... over the time i have been waiting i am wondering if there is something better... i recently got a new job so i will be able to spend more money on an interface...

pci is ok... im unsure as to which is best... i assume pci will have less latency problems... so that is a plus.

i would like the ability to record a full band... at least 6in/out..... i dont have a preamp so a interface with good preamps would be nice.... i have nuendo2 software btw... i also want one with good ad/da converters

The 3G only has a pair of mic preamps...

are they any good?

Haven't heard them yet. I'd assume they're "reasonable" considering the price...

But again, that's only going to give you two mics at a time unless you go with outboard preamps or a separate mixer...

Might want to look into the Aardvark stuff or an M-Audio Octane - You'd likely need a different monitoring interface, but at least you'd get your inputs...

i was recently given a behringer eurodesk 32 track 8 bus mixing board..... its really big, but it was free... im not certain how the preamps are on that thing but i could always pull it out of the garage and put it to use....

i may be able to strech my budget a little bit to be able to afford one of these cards...(in the upper 600 range)... ive heard great things about these cards...

on a different note... are there any problems with firewire/usb2.0 interfaces? are there any benefits?

If you can afford a Lynx card, I would definitely pick one up. The are truly outstanding cards with great specs. As for Firewire/USB, FIrewite is ok, USB is too demanding on the CPU, but you will get the best performance from a PCI card.

the motu 828mkii will give you up to 20 inputs and its only $650...

No. God, no. Run! Stay the hell away from the Digi001! (Unless you're only planning to use the S/PDIF in and the monitor knob. With ProTools LE.)

everybody does, and the specifications are usually on the websites too.

theres a lot more to picking a good card than the specs on a website... some cards have compatibility problems, crappy drivers, crummy ad/da converters etc...
