Right I'm new to Cubase and computer recording, my sey up is my pc to a Tascam 1641 interface ive pretty much got everything sorted but theres a few things i cant seem to figure out,
Problem 1: at random times ill be playing or recording a song and my speakers will start to make a weird weak distorted sound then after a while will return to normall.
Problem 2: what sample rate should i record at i know it has to be 44.100 to send the wave files to an audio file but should i record at 44.100 or should i record at 96.000, i only ask this because it says 96.000 on the Tascam manuel and if i do record at 96.000 will i still be able to send wave to audio at 44.100.
Problem 3: whenever i try to add a roomworks se effect to a track, my pc sh*ts itself. i thought this might be because my pc couldnt handel to many effects but i can pile on any other effect, compression as much as i like and it runs fine plus my pc is 3 times the requirments that Cubase and Tascam ask.
Problem 4: my headphone out is really quiet unless i pan everything fully left or right.

i will sort out the usb drivers and see what happens, what part of my machine are the plug-insto much for, like i said i can run lots of other plug-insand the track will have no issues its only when i apply a roomworks se pluggin that i start to get problems, the headphones are just coming from the tascam headphone jack, am i right in thinking that i should recive the same output as the monitor outsputs? as my speakers sound fine but my headphones dont, cheers for you help, lee
Bigger processors tend to be older, hotter and more monolothic.
Bigger processors tend to be older, hotter and more monolothic. Newer ones are typically smaller although that's beside the real point.
You should really optimise your XP installation for audio which will help more than simply upgrading your hardware.
Tips:
- Disable background crap. Disconnect from the Internet, close IMs, antivirus, etc.
- Record to a 2nd hard drive. Not got one? Get an external one, usb 2.0 or eSata. Or have a SATA drive fitted.

P2: Set it to 44100 in Cubase and the Tascam driver. Assuming your target is MP3 or CD, higher is just a waste of computer resources and will lead to problems.
P3: You can try going to a larger buffer size, but it sounds like the plugin is too much for your machine.
P4: With headphones in, or are you connected to speakers? Sounds like the left and right channels are out of phase. (Flipped speaker cable?)
